2014 BMW X5 xDrive30d Review

The 2014 BMW X5 xDrive30d gets reviewed by AutoExpress. While the U.S. won’t get the 30d model, diesel aficionados on this side of the pond will get to enjoy the more powerful xDrive35d.
The 2014 BMW X5 xDrive35d retains the 3.0-liter diesel engine, whose BMW TwinPower Turbo technology comprises VNT turbocharging and common rail direct injection, now develops maximum power of 255 hp and maximum torque of 413 lb-ft which is delivered between 1,500 and 3,000 rpm.
Here is the review from AutoExpress:
2014 BMW X5 xDrive30d Review
We tried the xDrive 30d, which is as punchy as ever with all the performance you’re likely to need. It sounds familiar too – a distant gruff growl, which gathers into a more distinct snarl as you press hard on the throttle. The extra grunt leads to sharper acceleration – the 0-62mph time drops by 0.7- to 6.9 seconds – but fuel economyand CO2 emissions have improved by 7.4mpg and 31g/km to 45.6mpg and 164g/km.
The X5 has always had impressive handling for a car of its size, and the new model continues the trend. All new X5s will be fitted as standard with BMW’s Driving Experience Control, a toggle switch that lets the driver switch between Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Eco Pro modes.
Comfort really is comfortable, bringing to the X5 a fluidity and level of bump absorption that simply wasn’t present in the old version. Even in Sport mode (Sport+ has the same level of damper stiffness but dials out the assistance from the ESP and traction control) this new X5 has a level of comfort that would have been utterly alien to its predecessor. Unfortunately that means it can’t match the steering feel and chassis responses of its predecessor.
The electrically-boosted steering has a lovely weighty feel to it, but it fails to transmit precisely what the front tyres are up to. As the cornering forces build, things improve, and there’s still a level of agility only the Porsche Cayenne can beat and the Range Rover Sport can equal. But it’s still not quite the drivers’ car it was.

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) today announced that the company's all-new 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage 5-door sub-compact – the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid gasoline-powered vehicle available in America with an EPA rated fuel economy of 44 mpg highway (CVT-equipped models) – will have a starting MSRP* of only $12,995.

Video Review: BMW i8

BMW i8 hybrid is powered by the B38 1.5 liter three-cylinder petrol engine aided by two electric motors. The little but potent combustion engine is transversely mounted behind the cabin and delivers 228 horsepower and 236 lb ft-of torque. That’s 152 hp per liter, an impressive figure by any standards. BMW engineers confirmed that there is room for a bit more power, but the current level delivers the best efficiency.
At the front, but closer to the wheels, BMW placed an electric motor developing 129 horsepower and 184 lb ft-of torque. This is the same electric motor as in the BMW i3 but with less power (170 hp in the BMW i3). All these add up to a combined 357 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque,

BMW M4 coming to DTM in 2014

While the four BMW DTM teams are hard at work preparing for the seventh race of the season at the Nürburgring, visitors to the automobile weekend in Pebble Beach, over 9,100 kilometres from the “Green Hell”, were treated to an exciting glimpse of the future: it was there that BMW M GmbH launched the BMW Concept M4 Coupé, an innovative high-performance sports car based on the new BMW 4 Series. This model also provides the first taste of the BMW M4 DTM, with which BMW Motorsport will compete in the popular touring car series next year.
“We are all really looking forward to the new BMW M4 DTM,” said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “The BMW Concept M4 Coupé certainly looks fantastic. So will our DTM car for next season – I can already promise all the fans that much. The BMW M3 DTM won the title at the first attempt in 2012. We obviously want to follow on from this success with its successor. However, it will still be quite a while until we get to see our new DTM racing car for the first time.”
BMW M4 coming to DTM in 2014
“A year ago we celebrated the 40th anniversary of BMW M and the 25th birthday of the BMW M3 in style, with Bruno Spengler winning the DTM race,” said Dr. Friedrich Nitschke, President of BMW M GmbH, in Pebble Beach. “With the launch of the BMW Concept M4 Coupé, we are now laying the foundation for a new era, both on the road and on the racetrack. The reactions to the Concept Car have so far been overwhelming. It is almost a matter of course to use it as the basis for a motorsport version. The DTM is obviously the ideal platform for this step. All fans of BMW M and the DTM certainly have good reason to start looking forward to 2014.”
So far, the BMW M3 has 48 DTM wins to its name. Harald Grohs (DE) scored the first victory in Hockenheim (DE) in 1987. The latest success came courtesy of Bruno Spengler (CA) at this year’s race in Spielberg (AT). The BMW M3 has also picked up victories in many other series and at racing events around the world, earning its place as the most successful touring car of all time.

New 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Designated an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK+

Mitsubishi Motors is the only automobile manufacturer to have its entire SUV lineup named as IIHS 2013 "Top Safety Pick+" award winners. Only 3 out of a total of 15 vehicles tested in the Small SUV segment received the "plus" distinction, and 2 of those 3 are Mitsubishi Motors vehicles; the all-new 7-passenger 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander joins the 5-passenger Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, which earned the TSP+ award in June.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is now awarding the new "Top Safety Pick+" designation as its highest accolade for vehicles that offer superior crash protection. The new 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander's "Top Safety Pick+" achievement indicates that it meets the tougher crash safety standards set forth by the non-profit vehicle research and crash test ratings agency that are now necessary to receive its highest accolade.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates vehicles as "good," "acceptable," "marginal" or "poor" based on performance in a moderate overlap frontal crash, small overlap frontal crash, side impact, rollover, plus evaluations of seat/head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts. The "Top Safety Pick+" requires a vehicle to score a "good" rating in at least four of the five tests and no less than an "acceptable" in the fifth test.
Of particular note, the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander received a "good" rating in the important small overlap frontal crash.  The Outlander is one of only two Small SUVs to achieve an overall "good" rating in the new test.
Added just last year, the small overlap test "replicates what happens when the front corner of the vehicle strikes another vehicle or object like a tree or utility pole," according to the IIHS. A full 25% of the front of the vehicle on the driver's side hits a 5-foot-tall barrier at 40 mph in the IIHS evaluation.
The new 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander's and 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport's exceptional IIHS "Top Safety Pick+" ratings can be attributed to numerous advanced high-tech design features including the increased use of high-tensile steel and Mitsubishi Motors' patented Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) safety body construction system.
Engineered into every Mitsubishi Motors vehicle, the Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) technology features integrated energy-absorbing crumple zones and engineered reinforcements strategically placed within the body/chassis that provide maximum protection to the vehicle's occupants in the event of an impact by absorbing and/or dispersing a great deal of this energy from the cabin.
What's more, the new 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander is available with a number of highly advanced safety technologies including radar-based Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) systems as well as a camera-based Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system (available as part of the Touring Package on SE and GT models).
With a starting MSRP of only $22,995, the new 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander comes with a long list of standard features (including seating for seven occupants) and is one of the most fuel efficient crossover vehicles in its class with an EPA fuel mileage rating of 31 mpg highway (ES and SE FWD models).
